Try both and see which you like. I would vote for the Toyota unless you live in snow country and AWD is super important. The Subaru AWD is superior in my opinion but the car is not as reliable. How many miles a year do you drive?

Thanks. Not that many miles. I am car shopping now because my 2007 hybrid has serious frame rust issues, more costly to repair than the car is worth. It had fewer than 50K miles for 13 years of owing it. Not many miles, but I'll drive more with an AWD.

Let me put it this way. My 2015 Forester had a lot of problems. I had a 100,000 mile Subaru factory warranty and it is a good thing I did. Obviously any car will rust if you don't clean the under carriage.

Of course, any make/model- there are lemons. Your warranty is your lemon protection- but too bad that the car was of that ilk. My wife's Forester is a '17 and it's been totally problem free in its 20K miles. As to the rust problems, I think that's more under control in the last few years than it was in the 1990's/ early 2000's- at least I hope so. But they don't call where I live "the rust belt" without a good reason. No way cleaning under the car is going to cure cure the constant winter road salt, unless you can do it all the time.
