How do I adjust the rear brakes

Are they grabbing to much or not enough? Disk or drum?

On my Nissan frontier the rear brakes are drum and the brake peddle does not feel right put new pads in front

Back up and press brake pedal this will cause the adjusters to adjust. Did you remove any brake lines? Have you checked the fluid level?
