Temperature Gauge acting crazy?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

As I was driving I noticed that on the highway my
temperature gauge was going all the way to hot
when I am going about 50-60 mph and as I let off
the gas it goes back down. This has happened to
me before about 5 months ago and it was my
thermostat that fixed the problem but it’s doing it
again. My thermostat shouldn’t be replaced this
soon, so what else could it possibly be? Also I
don’t have any service engine lights on.

Overheating at expressway speeds is poor coolant circulation. First thing to do is make sure you're not low on coolant. If you are, fill the system and check for leaks. If that's ok my next suspect would be a bad water pump. If that checks out have the cooling system flushed out with a chemical cleaner. You might have a clogged radiator or cooling system passages in the engine. Hope that helps! Jim
