Noise when off

Asked by Heywajda2 Apr 18, 2019 at 07:19 AM about the 2019 Subaru Forester 2.5i Sport AWD

Question type: General

When I turn off my 2019 Subaru Forester Sport, which is push button start, an
audible tonal/ringing noise happens from under the hood. What is it? I just got
the car a week ago and it has 8,000 miles on it.

I have a 2019 Subaru Forester Sport and it does the same thing! Did you ever find more information on what’s happening with it?

I have a 2019 Subaru Forester and it does the same thing. It’s kind of creepy. I was trying to google an answer but couldn’t quite describe the sound. Like a flute?

I have a 2018 Forester with approx 12,000 miles now. I noticed this noise when it hit 3,000 miles. VERY DiSAPPOINTING. I HATE IT. I contacted corporate offices informing them that my local dealership said that this is a normal noise, which I think is bogus. The converter for this model is made with a thinner metal, which causes this noise. They call it normal. I didn’t agree with this and took my car to 5 Subaru dealerships to figure out what the heck was going on. They all said the same thing, which I think is terrible for a new car making this clunky clicking sound (Just as ED92626 stated above). The parts man at one dealership told me they should replace the converter to eliminate that noise. They said no because it’s “normal”. I like Subaru vehicles, but this is so terrible for such a new car. I’m now looking at a different make/model. Makes me feels like this was a bad investment.

Same noise followed by a loud moan on my 2020 Forester after shutting off.Coming from A/C hose firewall.

"Ringing" could be the exhaust system cooling down. AC systems make noise when shut off due to the pressures equalizing in the system.

"Ringing" or crackling or popping type noises could be the exhaust system cooling down. AC systems make noise when shut off due to the pressures equalizing in the system.

i have the same hissing noise on my 2020 subaru forester (under the pedals it sounds like it's coming from. . started not too bad from day 1, i brought it in & the dealer they found nothing wrong. as i progressed to now 8,000 miles i hear it more often and a little louder & longer. i also noticed that when i switch off the fuel saving feature it doesn't happen too much. i'm going to bring it back again & see what they say, if not fixed on the third time, i'm filing a lemon law complaint to replace the vehicle. i've owned 6 subaur's & swear by them but this has changed my whole outlook on them & it's the last one.

Has anyone found a resolution for the high pitched whine when turning off the Subaru Forester? I have a 2019 with 12K miles. The sound started a few months ago and we haven't been driving much due to covid. Finally took it to the dealership. They recorded the sound and sent it to Subaru Techline. They were told it is normal...nothing to fix. I don't believe that and am very disappointed in my first Subaru. Trying to decide if I need to go back to a Honda.

That’s exactly what they told me....this is normal. I call that BS. As I stated above a year ago, all 5 local dealerships that I went to, stated it’s the catalyst converter. Apparently they started using a different type of material when they build the catalyst converter that expands with heat and when it starts to cool off you hear that clicking noise. I’ve had many Subaru’s prior to this one and this the first time I ever felt disappointed. My next vehicle just might be a Honda......

My 2019 Forester was making a high pitched whining sound after I turned it off. The dealership told me they couldn't find anything wrong and not to worry about it....probably wasn't anything. My husband PERSISTED and talked with the service manager. It took them keeping it for a couple of weeks, but they found the problem. The paperwork states..... "found that water pump is the cause of the high pitch noise. the water pump vein is possibly rubbing the inside of the housing of the water pump. recommend replacing water pump. replaced water pump and bleed coolant system, noise has gone away." I have had the car back for a few weeks and so far the sound has not returned. I hope this helps someone else. Good luck!!

My 2020 is making sound like off pitch clarinet, when it is shut off. Still no solution from dealership. Took 3x taking to dealership for them to be able to duplicate. Started around 5,000 miles and has progressively gotten worse.

I have a 2021 Forester with less than 17K miles. Started making high pitched tonal sound when I turned engine off. It occurred occasionally. Took to dealer with recording of the noise. They diagnosed AC condenser leaking freon and noise due to low freon. Parts on order and covered under warranty.
