Why are the locks engaging on their own on my 97 ford explorer xlt 5.0l?

My lock and interior lights keep coming on and off by themselves. Trying to
figure out what it might be.

Sounds like a short probably in the door actuator itself. It will require a multimeter and some time to locate this issue. I've locked shorts or loose wires, In the drivers door, wiring harness its self and have viewed FOBS that have... YES, buttons that become stuck or transmit intermittently. a door switch can cause this also. signaling OPEN,CLOSE, locks ON, OFF, lights repeating. Regards

Check the easiest first. If you have an extra key fob, use it instead of the one you currently use. If it fixes the problem, good. If not, you've eliminated one possible cause. Then move on to the lock/unlock button on the drivers side and check for a defect there.
