Is anyone having issues with Outback 2018-19 electric system?

Asked by Melissa Aug 12, 2020 at 09:27 PM about the 2019 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had to replace the entire wiring harness due to rats and
mice. I was informed by a subaru tech. that the wire tape is
a soy based plastic.  Please let me know if you are having
the issues too. I am having errors again.

Wow! First I've heard of that. 2015-2019 are basically clones, so there would be some elevated of incidence of that from earlier years too. Vegetarian tape, eh? We used to see nibbled-away alternator silicone rubber insulators often, surmising that rodents liked the high current 12v "buzz" underneath, but wholesale harness issues are a new one for me. I'd check with a couple of high volume Dealer service managers for more anecdotal evidence. I've NEVER seen such evidence in the 2016-2018 Legs/OBs I service and resell. I wouldn't be surprised if someone isn't pulling your leg, but you're obviously deeper into this scenario. Good luck. Ern TSG/B
