Battery light on in my 2007 Wave

I have a 2007 Pontiac Wave and last week had a new aternator put in.  This morning my batterie light came on is this a sign I need a new batterie now

Batt light comes on when alternator output is low , Do you trust your mechanic ? Did he use the cheapest P.O.S. part he could get ? Faulty , new parts are unfortunately a problem .
