97 ford escort manual transmission won't start

Asked by Cute_curious907 Jan 19, 2017 at 11:23 PM about the 1997 Ford Escort 4 Dr STD Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I thought it was the alternator at first, but I now
have power to everything except the car won't
start.. second gear was nearly impossible to get
into and the clutch felt 'loose' could it be my clutch
is gone and that's why it won't start? If so what do I
do? Check fluids? bleed it?  Replace it or throw the
whole thing away? Lol

If clutch felt loose, could be a the clutch pedal pump seal (best case). Try pressing a few times fast on the peadal and see if this 'hardens' the pedal. But the car should start on neutral with foot on clutch (even with a leaking pump, you could have a clutch switch). It should not be a problem though for the car to start. Start checking the fuses, the battery voltage. You didn't make it clear if it turns or not. Please give us more info so we can develop on this.
