what causes the turbo engine to cut out at 55 mph? It shakes and slowes down.

Asked by Onarga Apr 12, 2012 at 07:29 PM about the 1992 Mercury Capri XR2 Turbo Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When shifting between 2 and 3rd gears the turbo booster will go up to 5 and then back down  and the engin starts to shake until you shift into 4th gear. When traveling on an Interstate it can get tough going as the vehicle can loose power between 50 and 60. I am wondering if anyone would know it this is a turbo sensor issue or a waste gate problem.
