Power Steering issues after replacing pump.

Asked by Brian Dec 30, 2014 at 08:19 PM about the 1998 Ford Taurus LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just had a Power Steering Pump (system bled and fluid filter) replaced on my Taurus.  Worked great but had a minor noise issue, which I had read as related to this particular pump.  Then out of the blue, I just lost all power steering.  Checked the Reservoir and the fluid levels were way down.  Filled it again, and within 2 day lost power steering again.  So today, I checked it and started driving.  At 37 miles starting it feeling tight, by 45 miles it lost all power steering.  I park it on a cement driveway, with not a single drop of fluid anywhere.  Anyone have any idea, as to what the issue might be.

Fill it up again.....Leave the cap off..... Crank her up....Turn the wheels all the way to the left and right a couple times then check the fluid again....Replace cap move car to a area that the ground is not saturated with power steering fluid and check for leaks....All lines tight and in their proper places?

You may have had an air lock from not bleeding the pump when you replaced it.
