Is there a choke adjustment for a Mercury Topaz 1994 2.3Liter 4 cyclinder?

Is there any or a Choke adjustment for this model car, since in cold temperatures, it is a
real problem to get it started. I've read all the Owner's Manual tips for starting in colder
weather (below 18 degrees Fahrenheit) but none of the tips help at all. And when it's even
colder 0 or below, it won't start at all. Just chugs and chugs and shakes the whole car, so
I can't tell if it's being flooded or not?

It could be the temperature sensor check in to that I would start by replacing it. it may be telling the computer that it's hot while is cold
My Topaz of the same year is fuel injected meaning even the idle speed is preset at the factory. I had a high idle problem solved by replacing the idle control valve and sensor. It is a non adjustable unit with a combined function. . ($30 on eBay and about twice that a brick and mortar store) . Be sure and use the "lowest cost" search option. Some folks have excessively high prices trolling for a sucker. The idle control valve is located next to the ERG valve. It is a 5 minute job. Two bolts and an electrical pig tail. There is an anti tamper shield that covers the ERG valve and linkage that must be removed first. Again, just a couple bolts. I just left my anti tamper shield off when I finished the job.

Try to teach your car (module) disconnect your battery for at least 4 hours, then what ever you do to start it DO NOT PRESS THE ACCELERATOR ONCE YOUR BATTERY IT IS BEEN CONNECTED AGAIN, Your car it is fuel injection and the system is designed to work according to the electronic system design. Every time your battery is disconnected it looses memory and it will reset overtime but it will take extremely longer running time to adjust by it self, and that is, if you do not start wondering what is wrong and starts playing with unnecessary diagnostic. If you are in possession of Topaz owner manual on page 78 it is a clear description of this procedure. Once you start your engine: activate manual brake all the way and under no circumstances you touch your accelerator during the whole process and maintain all features in off position (AC, lights, heather, etc..), after the engine reach normal running temp move the stick to NEUTRAL and let it stay for one minute, and then move it to drive for another minute and repeat the previous procedure with air conditioning (if equipped) on and off (conditions permitting). The learning process will complete automatically as you drive your vehicle.
