Audio controls on steering wheel, not working

The audio controls behind my steering wheel on the
left side (for next/back) only work intermittently.

Either switch or clockspring failure.

Thank you. My Chevy equinox is only four years old but I will definitely check on the battery. If it’s the “switch or clock spring”, I’ll be taking it to the dealer. Thanks.
