1999 mercury cougar 105,000 miles - fine until tonight-started for a few seconds- shook violently- then died- unable to restart trying to push the car felt like the parking brake was on but it was not

was running fine - this happened all the sudden tonight.  no check engine or any lights. very odd as we were pushing the car to get a tow, at times it would hardly move like the parking break was on but it was not. it was like the car would not move.

When you try to start it, does it make any knocking type noise? If so, you may have a broken connecting rod.
