The brake switch doesn't just turn on the brake lights, it signals the computer when the peddle is depressed. when the switch goes bad, it might still turn on the brake lights properly, but it might tell the computer that the brake peddle is always depressed. This leaves the start button in an always start mode. And it signals the brake system, stability, and traction systems the same.
