Chevy Express 1500 burning oil

Asked by reaton Jan 20, 2019 at 01:34 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Express 1500 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 Chevy Express I bought new and have religiously changed the
oil every 3k miles…………now I have 120K and having to put 2 quarts of oil
in between changes. No leaks on garage floor and no blue smoke anywhere.
My mechanic wants to do an engine flush, then add 5 quarts of Valvoline
High Mileage Synthetic and a quart of Lucas Oil additive. But, before he
does that he wants to do and engine flush. I am nervous about performing
the engine flush………….anybody have any thoughts ? Thanks.

Have a leak down test performed on engine this will give real information on the overall condition and wear status..before considering a flush and adding Lucas snake oil, causes foaming NOT good.

Skip the flush and the synthetic oil. Try going up one oil weight class. What is your oil change interval?

F_O_R: I have changed it every 3K miles since buying it new. Since I don't drive that much, my last change was Sept 1, 2018. Maybe it might just be cheaper to put a quart or two in between changes.
