i have 91 929 mazda v6 will start with starting fluid then dies how can i test fuel reley and pump

take the fuel inlet tube off and put it in a bottle and turn the key on and see if it pumps if it does they are both good if not take the relay to a parts house and get a new one and see if it works if not the pump might be bad and you can see if the old relay is good by putting it in and if it is good then you will have a spare relay
