Pouring Antifreeze straight into radiator THEN pouring water in to mix it.

Asked by sedcampbell Nov 15, 2014 at 11:10 PM about the 1998 Ford Ranger XL Extended Cab 4WD SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently flushed my radiator and when i poured the new coolant in, i didn't pre mix it, I
poured a gallon of straight antifreeze in the radiator, THEN poured a gallon of distilled
water into the radiator to mix it., then topped off the reservoir with 50/50 mix. THEN I
turned on the car and idled the engine for a about 15 minutes to circulate it. Did it mix
okay? Is my truck going to be alright, or will the engine overheat, or seize up, or is it just a
low enough freeze point now? It really needs to be -34 F.

The truck will be fine. As long as it's a 50/50 ratio, it doesn't matter if it's pre mixed. It will blend fine within the system.

Most antifreezes are mixed with coolant anyway my ford(changed mine today actually) ask to use both antifreeze and coolant mixed. I just poured the entire gallon then topped off with water. Did that 4 years ago and never froze on me
