CEL Flashing but runs fine

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1996 Mazda Protege LX 1.5l Manual. The check engine light will come on at
higher RPM aftrr a few minutes of driving and start flashing then turn solid
after a few second. It has a P0301 code. I have replaced cap, rotor, and
wires. It does not lose any power or chug or feel like it is misfiring at all when
this occurs. I have cleared the code and driven it for 15-20 miles before i load
the engine a certain way and it sets the code. Going to check fuel tomorrow
but wondering if you had any ideas

Have you replaced the spark plugs? They should be replaced with the distributor cap, distributor rotor, and the spark plug wires for a complete tune up. That may solve the problem. HTH. -Jim

I havent yet but i did swap cyl 1 and 4 plugs with no change
