i am not sure but i think through the intake. i made a mistake and said to someone through the carberator and they corrected me that it could not happen. I am no car expert but it sounded like under the hood

It doesn't have a carburetor, maybe that's what whomever meant. It has a throttle body, but it resembles a carb. And it can indeed backfire back that way, and as roadmaster above said, it could be timing,Especially cam timing, if any spark plug ignites when intake valve is open, it will backfire back up through intake, most common with SPFI

with your best guess this has 235,000 miles on it and is it really worth fixing and is it alot of cost involved in this or new car or motor time

It could become a money-pit with that many miles. Fix the engine and the added power your transmission is next. I know, easy for me to say it's not my money but personally I would begin car shopping. So very unpredictable on what could happen, but 235,000 it has lived a good life

A jasper reman. for a V6 with a 100K warranty will run about 3500 installed. Now you have to decide if you want to take 3500 and put it down on another vehicle and invest it in what you have.
