Why wont my truck start when key is turned?

I have a 98 ford explorer v8 it was starting fine all of a
sudden i go to start my truck i get all lights on dash as
normal battery is fully charged but soon as i turn to run
position i get nothing not even a click

Thanks jay i will definitely check grounds does make perfect sense you mention a wire under the alternator funny you say that when i was under the hood i did feel a good size wire in that area the casing was frayed possibly chewed that ran right under the alternator i thought nothing of it but will be the first wire or ground i trace and hope replace thanks again your the best
