Delayed acceleration in drive and reverse

Asked by BACNissanSL Mar 17, 2020 at 05:44 PM about the 2017 Nissan Altima 2017.5 2.5 SL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Nissan Altima 2017 with
roughly 28,000 miles.  When I push on
the gas there is a delay before the car
will move forward or reverse.  I thought
maybe it was to conserve gas.  But
drove another similar car and it didn't
do it.
It is dangerous when I back out of my
driveway and then switch to drive and
can't move.  There are cars that almost
hit me because I can't get going.
How do I explain this issue to the
dealership?
What causes the delay?

One question. Does the engine rev up but the car not move or no action from the engine when you step on the gas?

Short answer: Transmission Valve Body Long Answer: Valve body sends feedback signals to the TCU which communicates with the ECU. Simply put, a solenoid is stuck in a mode (intermittently) restricting engine acceleration. Google Nissan SB NTB16-110a. This will give you a gist of what is happening. If you are not under warranty then you will pay to have the tranny valve body replaced and then the TCU reprogrammed. This is usually a warranty item. This problem will also happen to you while in neutral and park too. Here is a tip: When it acts up, you'll need to bring it straight to the dealer without shutting car off. They will use their consult III scanner and will find the problem. Your actual problem is a lag in throttle pedal response. happens in all modes of vehicle operations. Effected on all Altima's and some Rogue's. Restarting the car resets the TCU and clears faults and issue goes away until it comes back. Is more prevalent in warmer climates and most times when tranny is hot.
