Head liner - 98 Explorer sport.

The head liner is sagging and I want to replace it.
After a few YouTube videos, it seems most
vehicles have a fiberglass headliner that you can
use spray glue to attach new fabric to, and viola,
new headliner.
In my car, however, it seems that I have something
that looks like it used to be cardboard, and it’s
disintegrating.
Any ideas on what I should do?
Happy to run out and take a picture if I didn’t
describe it properly.

Yes the fords use cardboard and what you are seeing is probably the foam between the headliner fabric and the cardboard. Use a small flat head screwdriver to scrap spme off and see what I mean. If your cardboard headliner got wet and is crumbling apart, that is another story Time to hit the salvage yards for anther one. But if it is still good, you will need to remove the cardboard headliner and scrap off and sand off all the foam from the cardboard, and purchase and install a new special headliner fabric that has the foam already attached to it. You will use the spray foam to attach it. A lot of work, but you can save money from buying one.
