Car Windows 98 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer

Asked by Ashtonsue Apr 18, 2020 at 12:36 PM about the 1998 Ford Explorer 4 Dr Eddie Bauer 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've replaced window switch, the switches work but
no window goes down. I've checked fuses already.
I've checked wiring in the boot of the door. My
windows won't roll down but my lock buttons work.
My sunroof won't open neither and my done lights
don't either. Neither will my driverside mirror I just
had replaced. Is this all one problem, if not I mainly
want my windows to roll down.   Please help

With all those things not working, my money is on your having at least one bad or disconnected wiring MULTI-WIRE CONNECTOR, possibly a MAJOR one at the fuse block itself. Also check at the battery, started solenoid switch and ignition switch for a good CLEAN wire connections. A Tip: If the window switches actually DO all work (electrically), and the motors are all working you should be able to hear a noise coming from the motor itself in the appropriate door whenever you try to open or close any window. If the switches do work, but you CAN'T hear the motors running at ANY door, the wiring (or window control lock-out switch if you have one) is likely where the problem lies. if you can hear a whirring noise every time the motor is operating at every door, (so the power is getting that far,) but the window will not move, suspect that the motor drive is not engaging the window opening mechanism. The odds that all of the window motors would not be working ,IF all the wiring and switches are good, are astronomical.
