Is a Mazda Tribute safe to drive without the ABS?

Asked by Moosie58 May 27, 2016 at 11:21 AM about the 2004 Mazda Tribute DX 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

4 days after an oil change the ABS light came on in my Mazda Tribute.  My
mechanic first changed the alternator.  The car has just over 100K.  The
mechanic says the ABS is bad.  Should he check the speed sensor wiring
(just because I read it here).  The car has driven great in the almost 5
years I have owned it.  I live in a very dry climate.  I have two payments left
on the car.  Is it safe to drive?  Would you want your wife, mother,
daughter, sister driving it?  I actually planed on keeping it another year,
before this happened.

Yes its ok to drive just your anti lock function may not work so id be like driving a car with normal brakes not equipped with anti lock brakes. Have it scanned for codes it may be a bad wheel sensor or wiring to it, road debri tends to break the wiress to the sensors sometimes

Thank you for the responses. Would it change your responses, if I Said, they took the fuse out so the pump would stop running. The pump running ran the battery down?
