62 Impala

Ok, so I replaced the 4 interior lights on the 62, they now all work.  But I still can not understand why the Tach no longer works.  As you recall, I pulled the battery cable off of the battery while the engine was running.  What kind of short will have occurred on the tach, what might be the method that I can fix it.  ???
