Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Any suggestions on how I can close my rear door? I try to close, but
mechanism won't catch to keep closed!

Door would come open and not close, below freezing only. Sprayed latch with penetrating oil, helped some what. Replaced latch assy. under warranty. Worked perfect until it rained and froze again, would not open from inside or outside handle. Pulled into heated shop opened hard from outside handle in under 5 minutes. Let it warm up for 20 minutes works great, debating on replacing actuator cable or removing cable and flushing WD-40 or some form of moisture dissipating spray. It's more than likely water getting into the latch or cable and freezing. The cable is looped down from the latch so it could very well hold water. This vehicle has 6400 miles on it. My customer almost lost her Great Grandson out the door. Trying to find out from Chrysler Corp. If their are any service bulletins on it.

same thing is happening on my journey and it happened on my sisters aswell...only on the drivers side back door though... I live in a city where it's cold 3/4 of the year but this only seems to happen at -10C for my car then I have to tell people not to use it. warms up and the problem goes away

This happened to me today. I did get a car wash yesterday and the temperature has been under 32° since. I soaked the locking mechanism with WD40, pushed it back and forth a bunch of times and waited about 10 minutes. It works again, no issues.

Happened to me this morning. It did get very cold overnight, but when I opened the passenger rear door to put something inside, the door now won't stay closed and the door wont lock when I tried to see if I could hold it closed and lock from the key fob.

I have the same problem with the rear drivers side door unable to close during feeezing weather. My Dodge journey is 2015. So many of us have this same dangerous situation! Why is the repair of this problem not covered under the manufacture warranty???
