look to the battery, as that potential has to go somewhere, and feedin' it back to it's source does not make a reliable ground...hose the battery terminals free of corrosion, also the little extra connector on the red side, the black battery clamp should also be free of corrosion and at the other end of the cable where it is connected to the frame/chassis should be clean and able to handle the 300 amp or so cold cranking amps, and finally the ground connection to the engine should be electrically sound and be able to tackle 300 amps, no prob. but yes, once correct ground to engine and frame is established this flowin' fuses problem will magically disappear.

Look under the hood where the headlights are and check for wires that may be worn thru from yrs of wiggling on anything sharp. This would ground out and blow fuses.

Question to judge_roy_bean the positive side of the battery cable is cocked in a way that the cable looks to short or wrong battery installed. would it be possible to reverse battery or try to replace with longer positive cable>>

to mrmoony just bought suv not sure how to remove headlights. looks like a lever on top is this the latch to remove headlights?

No need to remove the headlights, just inspect the wires leading to the bulbs for worn thru or broken wires. It's a long shot but easy and cheap to do.

Weasel47, if the battery looks like the positive belongs on the other side, get a different battery that looks right. Have had actually a FIRE because the positive lead was on the wrong way around. So ya, change it 'round will only cause problems as you as is~

Red on positive, black on negative. Batteries can explode if you hook them up wrong.

Weasel47, did you find the problem? I'm having the same issue.
