'18 Subaru Forester vs '01 Toyota 4runner

Asked by GuruTJW2Z Jul 26, 2018 at 02:02 PM about the 2018 Subaru Forester 2.0XT Premium

Question type: General

Considering selling our '01 Toy 4runner with 143K miles in great shape as we
now have an '18 Subaru Forester...any thoughts as to the ability of the two in
bad winter weather in WV?

The Subaru AWD is very good but the 4Runner will work better in deep snow if it is 4WD.

Thank you, Mark...it is 4wd and good vehicle, just trying to downsize and not keep what we don't fully utilize...if you think the Subaru would be servicable in bad weather other than "off roading" perhaps we will offer the 4runner for sale.

The Subaru will be excellent on the road in snow as long as it is not more than 6" deep. I have a Forester and it works very well in snow but I use my 4WD in deep snow. I like real 4WD car and if it were me I would keep the Toyota but that is a decision only you can make.

Keep in mind Subaru does not recommend tire chains or cables due to low wheel well clearance. You can use type 'S' cables but I have never needed mine.
