How does CarGurus make money? Does the seller or the buyer pay?

Asked by Guru15XPM Aug 24, 2019 at 06:58 PM about the 2005 Lotus Elise Roadster

Question type: General

I am a possible buyer. I live 150 miles from seller. I need to have a conversation
with the seller to set up a meeting, an inspection and a test drive with a goal of
buying the car in one trip (with a bank check). Or arrange a mailed deposit to
hold the car until we can meet and complete the transaction.

Cargurus makes money on ads. Treat this site like you would buy a vehicle from any other car ad site or craigslist or facebook marketplace. Contact the seller and proceed with the sale, no need to get Cargurus involved unless you want to finance or security on the money transaction. If you do go through the system, the seller pays $99.
