I have a 1998 escort zx2

My 1998zx2 stopped running the other day I
thought my battery was dead so I tried to jump it
off since it is a stick shift it crunk up but started
smoking from behind the steering wheel then the
car shut off & now I have no power at all goin to
the my jump box won't start it what could be the
problem

HARD TO KNOW IF THE SMOKE TRAVELED UP THE TUBE OR IF YOU FRIED THE IGN SWITCH
