2004 Lincoln Navigator AC blows intermittently between top vent and face vents

Asked by s Aug 09, 2020 at 07:39 PM about the 2004 Lincoln Navigator Luxury 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2004 Lincoln Navigator has started
blowing between defrost vents and face vents.
When it switches,  the air is warm in top, but
cold coming out of face vents. It seems to
switch to defrost when I start going up hill. I
can usually get it to start blowing out of the
face vents by adjusting the fan speed.

The engine has started to sputter every now
and then,  and seems to only be with the air
conditioner running.  I'm thinking the AC issue
is electrical but not sure if the fuel injectors or
pump is going bad or if it's some how related
to the AC issue.  Maybe a vacuum issue? Any
help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks

You have a vacuum leak at the very least. Open throttle decreases vacuum vents default to defrost position letting of gas pedal gains vacuum then switching back to your selected position. low vacuum is that issue. probably causing more problems with ECM. depending on weather your Ford has MAP or mass air flow sensor maybe both I'm unfamiliar with their diagnostic

Thank you for your feedback. I'm inclined to agree with you on the leak. I was also thinking moisture in the tank. I drive it at least once a week but wondering if I hot some bad gas. My daughter said her vehicle is also sputtering. She probably got gas at the same location I did. I just hope it's not the fuel pump going out.
