Locking car when door is open

Asked by Michael Nov 22, 2019 at 01:47 PM about the 2018 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2018 Camry. If I press the door lock
button and a door is open it still locks all the
doors and doesn’t give any sort of notification
that the door is ajar. Is this normal? In my
2005 cr-v it gives a long drawn out beep if a
door is open and I press the lock button.

My experience with door locks as you described is: If I have the drivers side door open and push the door locks button, all the doors except my open door will lock - then when I close the door it locks automatically. I believe that is a design feature to prevent an accidental lockout. I have never observed the open door symbol on the dashboard during this operation. I'm not sure what happens when it is a passenger door.
