Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I've been having problems starting my 1999 Ford Taurus.  I checked
voltage on battery and alternator. Both showed good. Could be starter but
every time I try to start the car it sounds like a very weak battery. Sometimes
it will start after trying a few times in a row or no start at all.1st question:
Could my battery really be bad but showing good on tester????
2nd question:  can my scanner detect a problem code even if the "check
engine" light is not on?

Well, I found the problem myself: I had a loose ground wire from the negative battery cable that bolts to the car. Tightened the nut and the car started like normal.
