Ticking

2018 limited explorer Engine 3.5 v6 dhoc   I hear a ticking when idle. Is this
normal?

It could be normal. It really depends on the severity of the tick or noise. We can't hear it, so can only guess. I would also assume your truck is under warranty still, so make an appt. at your Ford service center to have them check it out.

a mild tick is almost considered normal and non-destructive. The source is typically in the top end of the engine (lifters, valves, rods, etc.) Can be fixed but usually is not worth the effort unless it gets annoying and can be heard inside the car.

The older 3.5's had an internal chain driven water pump. When they went out coolant would leak into the oil pan and mix with the oil. This would be unusual for such a new vehicle. Check the oil to see if it indicates water/coolant has been mixed in. At any rate it should be under warranty so I'd get it to the dealership as soon as possible.
