Text features turned off

Asked by Audrea Apr 25, 2018 at 10:08 AM about the 2018 Nissan Armada SL

Question type: General

I cannot get the text services to work in my new
Armada and I’m frustrated. My device is connected
and I’m using Bluetooth with no issues. I can call
out and give commands. Except speak to text.
Vehicle Says phone disconnected or not supported.
I have an iPhone X. Surely it’s supported. Book
states this feature could have been turned off. But
my state allows speak to text while driving so how
do I fix this?  I’m already irritated there’s no Apple
CarPlsy or Apps on a $56k vehicle. So at the least, I
should get this turned on. It’s there in the menu. I
can see it. Can anyone help?

I found the answer to my question so I thought I would post it for others. Again, this is for a 2018, so I'm not sure if it works for anything below a 2018. Once you connect your bluetooth iPhone to the Armada (unsure about droid), under Settings - Bluetooth, click on the "i" next to your vehicle's name if you have named it already, then tick the show notifications to ON. Mine was off by default for some reason, thus not allowing for text messaging features to display. And this is also where you will choose if you will upload other all contacts, favorites, recents, etc. And you will have to turn your vehicle off and back on for this to take effect. I am not sure why this is nowhere in the user manual. Very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!! I do like the feature, as it will read it aloud to me while driving so I don't need to look at my phone. What I don't like is that I cannot figure out how to reply with what I want to say instead of the pre-created messages in the system. But that is for another day. Oh and my husband's new truck has Apple CarPlay and he hates it. Doesn't' even use it. And I've heard many people state the same thing. I guess it isn't up to par yet. I'd love to hear what others think. I still think Chevy is beating the competition in infotainment, just not in vehicles that last without problems.

I just bought a 2018 Armada SL today. Tried to connect my IPhone X. Text was not working. Salesman went to the techs and was told that the phone is more advanced than the car and Nissan is working on an upgrade/patch to get it to work. No telling when it will be available. Not sure if this was just a salesman pushing me off or if it really is in the works.

I just connect my IPhone RX to my 2018 Nissan Armada and successfully can receive texts. I followed Audrea’s how-to. The setting in on the phone. Not the car.

Yes I can now get my text messages through the car and it reads it out loud...but as far as sending a quick talk to text I cannot get it to work...I have to be honest...I love my car...but it’s 2019...I mean really, these are things that should work seamlessly without any of these issues?? I am frustrated and again I don’t know how good Apple CarPlay is but I know my car doesn’t have it...so the least they can do is make sure THESE features are up to par.

iPhones won’t let you send text through the car which is one of apples crazy rules. If it’s an android, then yes you can. It’s why Apple has to be plugged in and android is Bluetooth. Apple limits the use of personal information. Do your research and google your questions as to why something may not be working correctly from brand to brand before getting frustrated and speaking out. Sometimes, two things just won’t work cohesively ..

Read your documentation that comes with the car your just spent thousands of dollars on. Your car Manuel will tell you the features of the model and limited info per brand they decide to add to the model. Anything else not Nissan or (make of car) related they will direct you to Apple website or the like. It’s not the car salesman’s job to go over those features. He/she sells cars not tech. They Only have basic tech knowledge of what comes with each trim level for that car/truck. Think Of it this way .... Beer company’s don’t sell u beer and tell u how to open the bottle .. do they ?

Wow...first of all it’s not like I advertised my frustration on a billboard...or tweeted out the company publicly...secondly I have read my manual...and no where in the hands free text messaging portion does it say to refer to my phone website. I never complained about the car salesman and while you are giving me tips on what I should do...let me give you a tip...there is a way to speak to people. Thank you for your condescending yet helpful information, however I am still disappointed in the fact that this is a 2018 $85k vehicle and I can’t hit a button to send a preloaded text message on my car screen. A car manual is a little different than opening a beer bottle as well.

@GuruXYMPT I just got the 2019 Armada and with Audea's advice I am able to receive a text message and go through the steps of trying to send an easy reply but it won't let me. However.... I know this doesn't make it hands free but if you press your home button on your phone to activate Siri, you can voice to text through her. Not sure if this helps! I also agree that the two above posts are very condescending! I googled all day yesterday and read my manual and there is nothing in the manual that gave me the info that Audrea listed above!

Thank you Audrea, I finally got the stupid message off of my car. I agree with you for the price of these cars the infotainment system is not good. My 2012 Honda was so much better. I will be going back to honda after this car.
