92 Cherokee shuts off while driving

Asked by jmk921420 Jun 29, 2018 at 10:07 PM about the 1992 Jeep Cherokee 2-Door RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 92 Cherokee has started to shut off
while driving. Also will not start for 10-
15mins up to 4hrs. Sound like it's
starving for gas, but fuel rail is
pressurized. No check engine light. No
code on reader. Checked CPS, TPS,
coil, battery, alternator, grounds,
computer & a number of other things.
Fuel pump is working, no clog in fuel
line. Shows all signs of electrical issue,
but several times when it wouldn't
start, I've poured gas in throttle body &
it started right up. But, 2/3 of the time,
that does not work. It started about 10
days ago.
Anyone have any ideas..?????

This is the very same issue I am having with my 98. Applying gas does not help as it behaves like it is not getting any gas. It restarts, but will repeat the shutdown within a couple hundred yards. On the third restart, it smells flooded and will only restart after 20 minutes or so. The ECU has not been replaced.
