am i able to buy just the voltage regulator piece for an alternator or would i have to buy a new alternator?

i was told my alternator isn't bad its the voltage regulator within the alternator. i called auto zone & o reilly's but they dont have the piece.

Personally I would buy a lifetime alternator from auto zone and never have to worry about it again.
