Touched 2 wire and took out my windows and more not a fuse problem

Asked by Plecko Feb 28, 2019 at 04:41 PM about the 1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I need help with my Jeep Grand Cherokee
1998 . I was trying to change my back
windshield wiper motor and I touched 2 of
the wires together with the screwdriver in the
plug that plugs directly into the back
windshield wiper motor it self. And after that
it took out my  thermostat that tells the temp
of out side , my front windshield wiper delay
settings , my auto head lights ,  all of my
windows will no longer roll down , my back
window defrost along with the back
windshield wiper motor, and my dome light
will not shut off right away when all the doors
are shut and the car is started takes about 1
min after car is started. That's everything I
know of that was taken out idk what else it
could have taken out. I checked every single
fuse under the hood and in side the car and
only one fuse was blown but after I changed
it it didn't fix the problem so I don't think that
fuse blew from what I did and I switched a
few relays but doesn't seem to be any of
them that would control everything that was
taken out .  I don't know what I could have
done it sounded like a fuse but I checked all
them I need help or some ideas what I could
have done and it's getting hot out side so I
have no ac or windows to go down and I
need my windows to work again so I have air
when I drive. Does anyone have any idea
what I may have done to take out all those
things. Thank you for any ideas.

Short answer to your question: You worked on a mobile electrical system without disconnecting the battery and then you shorted it out with a screwdriver. Lesson learned, I hope. I would check your fusible link since prior to 2000 Dodge still used them (and pray that is the problem).
