1964 Ford Falcon automatic transmission shifting hard

I have a 1964, Ford Falcon Futura with 260 V8 and 2 speed Fordomatic Transmission.  I let the car sit for a couple years without driving it, which was a huge mistake.  The motor is running rough and the transmission is not shifting smoothly like did.  Particularly noticeable when coming to a stop, the transmission switches into a lower gear, however when it switches gears it is slams into the lower gear.  It’s not a smooth change of gears.  Any suggestions?   Thanks

I don't know much about this transmission but others of that era had a vacuum modulator. Maybe yours went bad. I would also tune up the engine as poor running or low vacuum might affect the shifting.
