manual transmission clutch

Asked by sguti Sep 09, 2010 at 08:44 PM about the 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2003 jeep liberty sport has had the clutch replaced twice due to chatter. When the clutch is not pressed its a noticable chatter. Even with a new clutch (pressure plates, throw out bearings, disc etc.) the chatter still exists and its driving me crazy. 3 mechanics claim its just enginee noise, if it is engine noise why does it go away when I press on the clutch? Please respond if you think you know the answer.

I have the exact same problem. Replaced clutch twice, looking at a third time. My clutch pedal is also very very stiff, all the time. Anyone who can help, please due so! Thanks

it has a aluiminum fly wheel, with heat build up,from clutch usage it will warp causeing it to chatter.in other words, out of round.it is not engine noise.have replaced several of theses ,problem went away.

Replace the flywheel as well, but only after the second clutch began chattering shortly after install. I guess the old flywheel could have damaged the new plate before i replaced the flywheel?
