2015 Yukon XL passenger side brake light out.

Asked by GuruXWDFB Oct 10, 2018 at 08:25 AM about the 2015 GMC Yukon XL Denali 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2015 Yukon Denali XL with the
passenger side brake light recently working
on and off. Took it to dealer and they want
$750. Just seems absolutely ridiculous with
the age of the truck and 50k miles. I've
owned mostly new cars and replaced them
about every five years and NEVER have I had
to replace the lights. After researching, I'm
finding this problem affecting many others.
I've read it's the wiring connections melting.
Anyone heard why this is actually
happening? Any comments on this are
appreciated.

GuruXWDFB if wires are melting then this means the wires are definitely grounding out and in your description it sounds like you have a loose wire especially if your saying its happening here and there, they want that much money because of tracking down the bad wire but if you have some knowledge of this grab a continuity test and wire test light and test the wire to the light and see where your at . Wire testing takes a lot of patience and time .. I've worked on cars for 40 years and still when it comes to wiring its not an easy thing to diagnose. But theres a sure way to test to see if you have a shorted wire , take the positive cable off the battery and use a wire test light connect one end to the positive on the battery and the other end to the positive wire you took off and if it lights up you definitely have a short somewhere at least that's a start .. good luck

It's the LED array - they're junk. It's not the wiring harness, fuses or melting wires. I recently got both my tail lights repaired for $278 at Yukontaillightrepair.com and they're back to normal now. Hardest part was getting to the post office. But GMC can fly a kite on the $753 they wanted for each OEM replacement - probably the same OEM crap.
