Fuel pump

Asked by Platt22 May 08, 2019 at 05:38 PM about the 2000 GMC Yukon Denali 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Fuel pump would t turn on, crank but no start.  Pushed to
curb, left overnight, came back in morning and fuel pump
turned on as if nothing happened.  Drive for about a month,
daily driver, started over 100 times no issue, no issue while
driving either.  Came back from fishing, same thing fuel
pump wouldn't turn on.  Next day no luck, had it towed and
diagnosed with a bad fuel pump ($600 estimate). Told
them I'd do it, went to get truck and could tell battery was
dying, hooked up jumper cables and it started just fine no
pump issue.  Had it for about 4 days so far and again
driving daily with no issues.  So what's going on here?

I should add, I bought new fuse pump relay, still wouldn't turn fuel pump on, tried jumping it, no luck. Gas gauge quit working about 7 months ago as well. Thanks!

Bad brush contacts in a fuel pump will do this... when it wont start beat on the bottom of the tank while someone holds it in the crank position or you have the relay jumped
