Hello, The 2004 Liberty had lots of driving options, including the Command-Trac and Select-Trac systems. The 4x4 part time works by having the transfer case mechanically locking the front and rear driveshafts together, causing them to rotate at the same speed for maximum traction. Best of luck! CarGrrl

Mines an 02 but I think works the same as the 04. Part time means it is not meant for dry road use as the front and rear become mechanicaly connected. Dry roads will put excesive wear on your stuff. use when driving on snowy slippery roads only. Also do not engage while spinning. Sitting still is not required.
