Try putting vehicle in neutral and see if it will start.

Yes, could be a defective neutral safety switch, especially on a 2005 model. But with the errands and then suddenly dead, seems more like a battery that depleted by a worn out alternator or a defective part in the charging system. You might have enough juice to light the lights, but not enough to turn the starter motor. Jump start the car properly; leave donor hooked up long enough to charge your battery, at least ten minutes. If your car starts, fine. If it does not start, replace your battery. After either of these, go to an auto parts store and have any codes read. They may point you to the reason your battery died.

I had the same problem on my 06 jeep liberty. Their is a module in the steering colum with the ignition that will do this. Everything will have full power. It just won't do anything. Had it replaced and now it starts fine.
