distance to empty not resetting

570

Asked by A Mar 28, 2019 at 02:31 AM about the 2017 Nissan Rogue S FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had about 1/4 of tank and I just refilled the tank.
The fuel gauge indicates a full tank, but the distance to empty didn't reset. This
has never happened before.
Did anyone experience this before?
What do I do to fix it?

This exact same thing has happened to me. Now it's been several tanks of gas but every time I fill up, it doesn't reset back to what it should and therefore when I'm at about 1/4 of a tank it shows 0 miles remaining.

I just bought a 2019 Nissan Rogue SV, and had the same issue with DTE not resetting after I put 4.28 gallons of gas yesterday to fill the tank. I am not sure whats happening, but I am headed over to the dealer tomorrow and have also let Nissan know about it. It is quite a shame on the part of Nissan to put faulty parts on a vehicle.

Having the same problem. The owners' manual has a procedure for resetting the DTE...but it doesn't work. Called the dealership and they said to bring it in so they could look at it and see if they can reset it. So now I get to waste more of my time.

Ok, since it has been a while I posted this question, I will share my solution/story. There was a battery terminal corrosion issue with my car resulting in battery passing in weaker power, which eventually led to a power shortage. So if you are experiencing this issue, I would check if your battery is generating enough power for your vehicle. Since my vehicle was still covered under the warranty, I brought the car into the dealership and they cleaned up the battery terminal. And then they completely disconnected the battery from my car and left it there for a good one hour. The system reset itself after connecting the battery and has been working fine ever since.

Normally when I have a full tank (2013 Nissan Rogue) my miles to empty reading is 256 miles. Last time I topped off my tank - appx 1/8 tank, the miles to empty remained at 200.. Today I drove 40 miles and my miles to empty read 180 (not 160?) & when I just topped off it remained at 180 miles to empty. Is there a way to reset/remedy this issue? My friend is going to clean my terminal and reset it tomorrow.. we'll see how it goes.. Thanks!

I am having the same darn issue. I took it into a Nissan dealer and they did a "hard reset". They supposedly fixed the issue, and charged 150 to do NOTHING. It is still not resetting and continuing to go down after I fill it, I should also mention I have a job where I have to turn it on every so often, and let it run for a few minutes(which obviously affects the miles available). But even after resetting all my average speed, and fuel economy the number still gets stuck then continues to drop.

Should mention sometimes the gas gauge will take a while to reset after fueling. When the battery is disconnected and reconnected it reads close to 400 til emptt, when you refill it, it's now in the upper 200's. Abnoxious.

GOOD NEWS - I replaced my car battery and now the "Range" gauge works perfectly fine again!

Same to my 2020 Rogue, I took the car in and asked the dealer what is going wrong. After 5 days, they said no problem. Seriously?! I refilled the tank with $3.88 of gas before it spilled. I show them again, and they said they don't know how to fix. The reading was 5152 (50 miles ago), and the range is now down to 97, with a full tank less 50 miles. Their mech was telling me, my average per gallon can be low. Really, Mr. Mechanic? 18.8 mpg x 14.5g tank = 152? (was 152)?? Their mech can't fix the car they sell, and they can't even do the math correctly! I will bring in the car next week, and may give them some advise.

I had the same problem on my 2018 Nissan Rogue. I was able to fix my issue. Not sure if it will work for anyone else, however, a friend suggested that the issue was the gas cap. He said sometimes when you have so much technology in a car we assume complex solutions like the car should figure things out based on the weight of the gas in the tank, computer chips etc. He said next time you fill up, clean the gas cap thoroughly of debris, then slowly screw cap back and when you hear the first click stop. Then tighten it again until you hear another click. Then make sure with a bit of oumph close fuel tank door. When I went back in the SUV the miles to go was all good at close to 400 miles

I'm having this problem now. I just filled up yesterday and it never reset to 400, instead it stood at 110 and continues to go down. I drove 10 minutes yesterday and this morning it is reading 95, however my gauge shows full.

had the same issue the other morning had about 345miles went to top up because my job requires me to put alot of mileage on my car put 15 in to top it up stayed at 345 miles gas odometer reading full then it stayed full and just continued to lower as i drove while the odometer remained fulled, i can confirm on 2018 nissan rogue for myself disconnecting and cleaning the battery terminal as well as the connectors and cleaning the gas tank lid reset and sorted out my problem i cant say for sure it will work for everyone but definately disconnect the battery and clean just disconnecting seems to reset the odometers and mileage sensor good luck!
