What can be the cause of my car not starting sometimes?

I have a 1999 Ford contour and when
I go to start the car it will turn over
but not crank, if I try a couple hours
later it will start.

Could be a number of things. I would buy a cheap pressure gauge and see what pressure you have. Could be a bad fuel pressure regulator or a bad fuel pump. Before spending a ton of money, you could just do a tune up. Change the plugs, wires, filters. Buy some throttle body cleaner and give your throttle body a good clean as well as your IAC. I have a 2000 Ford Contour. I ran a few errands yesterday with no issues. I did not hear any changes in how the car starts or how long it takes. I went out to my car today and it does not turn over. All lights/electricity is on, it makes the sound like its trying to turn on, but will not turn. I bought a new battery hoping that was part of it. That is not the issue, left it plugged in over night and did not drain, so it does not appear to be alternator (which was recently replaced) what else could it be?
