4wd system

Asked by Davejean1956 Mar 23, 2018 at 02:04 PM about the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving along with girlfriend in her
F250...snowy but not too bad.
Suddenly, even while going slow,
started spinning out...she recovered
nicely. Just today, while leaving my
driveway, slow left turn out of drive, I
watched...and her right rear tire locked
up several times...that CAN'T be
normal. I have had many 4wd vehicles
and currently have 2...none of them
have ever done that. Any idea of what
is going on? I think that's what
happened that day when we started to
spin out.

Since it's a new truck, have the dealer look it over for a possible ABS issue.

Look at your differential, see if either one is leaking. In some cases where the vehicle has a limited slip differential, and the grease leaks out, I find this exact problem. There may be a pin that is supposed to lock the rear end that stays locked up from no lubrication. This makes the rear end work like one axle, then your tires have to drag on one side while you turn.

If you find your differential is leaking, please let me know, and that will add to my understanding of this problem elswhere.
