Power steering light

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Has anyone had a power steering light come on
followed by complete loss of the power steering? I
just had this happen and am being told by Kia that
a module on the rack and pinion has failed! The
only way to fix it is to replace the entire rack and
pinion at a cost of 4500.00 for the labor, parts and
diagnostics.

Check the fluid level on your power steering it could just be low and the relay kicked in so you wouldnt have another issue. Sometimes the guild will be gone and it got over heated and froze then you get to buy a whole new steering column.

Lol yes you do most newer vehicles have electric but you still have fluid and you also have an emergency relay that will stop your system from Overheating lift up your hood and check your fluids. The transmission fluid is a red or yellow ring get a napkin to clean off the dipstick ready. So turn your vehicle on put it in neutral and check it oh make sure the emergency break is pulled we dont want anyone or anything like your car to get hurt. Pull the ring all the way out gently and wipe off then put it back in now pull it back out and read the very tip of the metal you will have fluid or should that is pinkish in color and a full and low lines marked. If nothing is on that stick you are super low and you need to add some. Not all vehicles are the same in what goes in so call the dealer or even talk to a parts store clerk they can look it up for you.

Well thanks for that info...I do know how to check my fluids...I am not completely helpless. However my car is currently at the dealership where it’s getting fixed.
