There are sensors behind the bumper for the air bags. dissconection of the battery keeps the air bags from going off if you you have to jam the brakes on the rv or get into a collision.

The air bags are not going unless the nose is crumpled. Air bags deploy when the vehicle is hit, not if there is a near miss. ---- Where did you hear that the battery must be disconnected? I found this set of instructions and they don't mention the battery. http://www.quadratec.com/jeep_knowledgebase/article-145.htm
