Check engine light on

I just purchased a car and the check engine light
came on the next day after purchases. I went to get
the code read and one appeared as pending does
this mean that the seller turned off the check engine
light?

This is why you scan for codes before you buy.

Yes seller turned it off. Always hook up a scanner that shows if monitors are complete. Saved a family member a bad buy a few years ago when I discovered the seller turned the CEL off. I told the seller he turned the CEL off. I walked away. Seller tried to get me to buy it for a reduced price after my discovery.
